Marketing Intern Needed for Fall 2009
Jewish Women International (JWI) is the leading Jewish
organization empowering women and girls through economic
literacy, community training, healthy relationships
education, and the proliferation of womens leadership.
Our innovative programs, advocacy, and philanthropic
initiatives protect the fundamental rights of all girls
and women to live in safe homes, thrive in healthy relationships,
and realize the full potential of their personal strength.
The JWI Marketing Intern will assist the Marketing Department
with the following tasks, and help the department additionally
as needed: General Marketing Duties - managing press
lists drafting press releases, writing and editing for
E-Newsletterwriting, Web copy, and other Web projects
as needed. Woman to Watch-promoting the event promoting
JWI at the event and other event preparation as needed.
Jewish Woman magazine-generate a list of advertising
prospects and sending media kits, possibly write content
for magazine Web site. Applicant should have solid written
communication and computer skills, be detail oriented
and a team player, and have experience working with
community groups (both Jewish and non-Jewish). If interested,

Job at the American Jewish International Relations Institute
Available!
Part time employee with excellent computer skills to
coordinate email list serve, potentially develop a website,
and send monthly newsletters. The job requires internet
research and organizational skills. Also, office work
such as filing may be needed. The salary is $15 per
hour; time involved is generally 2-10 hours a week (usually
around 4-5). The position is based where your computer
is, although some on site work would be done at my home/office
in Chevy Chase. If you don't have a car, we could work
something out where you could come by metro and I would
pick you up. The initial training would be with our
current person in Tenleytown, which would take an hour

consulting and public affairs firm, specializing in
political non-profits, progressive foreign policy, Jewish
and ethnic affairs, and academic research, is looking
for a part/full-time intern for the fall semester. The
internship offers a great opportunity to work closely
with many progressive, non-profit, ethnic, Democratic,
and international organizations. Rabinowitz/Dorf Communications
is a unique firm that focuses on publicizing issues
and planning events for clients with a wide range of
issues as disparate as religious freedom, democracy
building, womens health, academic research and
the environment, and from the Middle East peace process
to domestic American Democratic Party politics. Given
the relatively small size of the firm and the diversity
of its client base, interns will be exposed to a broad
range of projects in the publicity and public relations

Seeking Fall Interns
The national office of one of the premier American Jewish
organizations is seeking fall interns who are looking
to combine their interests in Jewish communal work and
national politics. United Jewish Communities Washington
is the legislative arm of United Jewish Communities/Jewish
Federations of North America (UJC), bringing the voice
of 157Jewish community federations and 400 independent
Jewish communities throughout North America to Capitol
Hill as a prominent force in health and human service
policy decision making. UJC's legislative agenda is
focused on bolstering baby boomer retirement policy,
protecting Medicaid's mission and funding, safeguarding
non-profits from terrorism, and creating new alternatives
for long-term elder care. UJC interns will have the
unique and unparalleled opportunity of exposure to a
wide range of national public policy issues. Through
this internship, interns will learn innovative approaches
that stimulate community interest by organizing and
informing local grassroots networks of Jewish federations.
This includes day-to-day responsibilities of attending
congressional hearings; taking part in advocacy/leadership
training days; compiling and analyzing surveys; and
researching and writing on issues which include, but
are not limited to, senior transportation, aging, and
family caregiving. This year, the General Assembly will
be held in Washington, D.C. in early November. The General
Assembly is the premier annual North American Jewish
conference and is an event that inspires and engages
current and emerging Jewish leaders, tackles the most
critical issues of the day, and showcases the best of
the Federation movement. The GA plenaries, forums and
breakout sessions feature top speakers from the political,
business and nonprofit realms. As a fall intern, you
will have the chance to attend and participate in this

a Difference in your Community:
Newton Hospice Hosts Volunteer Training
Are you looking for a way to serve your community? Would
you like to help provide comfort and support to people
with life-limiting illnesses and their families? Now
is the time to join Circle of Caring at Hospice of the
Good Shepherd in our tradition of caring for the community
for more than 30 years. Circle of Caring at Hospice
of the Good Shepherd, a Newton-based non-profit, non-sectarian
home care hospice agency serving surrounding communities
since 1978, is seeking volunteers to make home visits.
Bilingual volunteers and those with an interest in the
arts are especially needed. Care is provided to individuals
in their own homes and in nursing homes. A comprehensive
Volunteer Training Program for Direct Service Volunteers
will take place this fall. All training sessions will
be held at the Hospice office, 2042 Beacon Street, Newton.
Training is provided at no cost. Volunteers are also
needed to help in the office, on fundraising projects

Looking for Youth Advisors
Congregation Bnai Tzedek, a conservative synagogue in
Potomac, MD is looking for dynamic, engaging Jewish
adults to work as advisors for our four Youth Groups
(grades 2-3, 4-5, 6-8, and 9-12) for the 2009-2010 academic
year. Each position is part time and requires some weekend
and evening work. The role of the advisor includes:
Creating, coordinating and implementing exciting, age
appropriate programs for the youth. Working with the
Director of Congregational Programming to determine
the appropriate scheduling of activities in conjunction
with the synagogue and Youth Department calendar Design
publicity material for events which can include but
not limited to: flyers, post cards, emails, facebook,
phone calls, texting. Actively recruit both members
and non members for events. Make all arrangements for
any supplies, transportation, reservations, extra chaperones,
etc Complete a summary/review following the event Assist
in the planning and staffing of Parents' Night Out (January
30, 2010) Attend periodic B'nai Tzedek Youth Committee
meetings as necessary Advisors for Kadima (6th-8th grades)
and USY (9th-12th grades) will also attend and chaperone

Machar, The Washington Congregation for Secular Humanistic
Judaism, affiliated with the Society for Humanistic
Judaism, is recruiting teachers for our Jewish Cultural
School for 2009-2010, Grades PreK- 4. Bachelor's degree
preferred. Small classes. Curriculum and lesson plans
provided. We meet for 20 Sundays, approximately every
other week, early September through early June for grades
2-4. PreK and K/1 meet for 10 Sundays. Our curriculum
focuses on Jewish culture, history and humanistic values
in a family setting. We meet at the Jewish Primary Day

JOB DESCRIPTION: Located on Capitol Hill in Washington
DC the Association of Jewish Aging Services (AJAS) seeks
an intern for our national office. This is an ideal
position for a public policy/political science senior
or grad student. Our small office will provide a unique
opportunity to learn the "ins and outs" of
national level non-profit work. Our Intern will be an
active participant in all office-wide projects and will
also be encouraged to develop independent projects and
new initiatives. Primary responsibilities include: Assist
with projects relating to the AJAS Annual Conference
Keeping AJAS members up to date regarding important
and relevant issues Maintain accurate member data-base
to enable regular contact with members Updating mailing
lists and database Support communications initiatives
Attending national meetings related to public policy
issues and other initiatives that have impact on AJAS
membership Opportunities to write for various publications,
depending on experience other miscellaneous projects
as needed. JOB REQUIREMENTS: The candidate must have
excellent written and verbal communication and research
